Fickleness

Ex 31-40 It's hard to understand the behavior of the Israelites in getting Aaron to help them make a golden calf to worship. It's also hard to understand God's harsh punishment of them, rampant death, though certainly God is righteous and holy and they totally failed to follow Him. It's jarring as well to see them later so willing to give to the creation of the fixtures of the tabernacle, to be overwhelmingly generous w/ their money and talents. What definitely comes across is how fickle people can be, excited about God's work one moment, but turning against Him the next.
There's much to be said for perseverance and I think it really evidences maturity. I also believe it to be something God truly values and as evident by God's treatment of the Israelites, it's very grievous when its lacking. Rom 5:4 indicates that suffering brings about perseverance and perseverance brings about true Christian character which culminates in delightful assurance of and joy in our future hope.
Do we have a fickle faith, a fickle walk, a fickle love? Undoubtedly at times we do, I do. May God help us be steadfast, dependable.
