Know Him, Reflect Him

Ex 11-30 So much to challenge me in these chapters! Just as the Israelites were to tell their children the significance of the Passover, I want to be able to and to consistently tell my children what it means to be a Christian and to live a life that honors God. I also want to remember that the Lord will fight for me, and I need to be still, wait on, and trust Him. I often fall into the same trap that the Israelites did, while fresh on the heels of seeing God's work in their lives through His deliverance, grumbling about wanting more, not being satisfied w/ what He's given, not putting Him first. The Ten Commandments stress the need for God's followers to hold Him high and to live a life that is righteous from the inside out. Yes, most of the commands involve not doing something, but there are also injunctions against having any god before Jehovah, as separate from idols, and seemingly more inclusive of a heart attitude of putting God first, as well as against coveting, which definitely involves the heart--dissatisfaction and jealousy. In the New Testament, Christ very much stresses the heart attitude that is behind right and wrong actions.
I'm also reminded by the description of the tabernacle and the priestly system that God is holy, and we are to be holy as well, honest, truly loving others, reflecting Him, set apart not because of ourselves, but because of His work in us.
