To Solomon

I Kings 1-13
Solomon, you had every opportunity.
God gave you wisdom.
God gave you wealth.
God gave you fame.
But you chose flesh.
You chose lies.
You were no temple to God like the one you built.
And at the end of it all
what legacy could you leave
but to say, "don't follow my way,"
and what son listens
to words that lack the conviction
of action?
Instead he follows the example
and steps it up a notch.
Such a waste,
vanity of vanities,
mournful, empty song.
