Anne Elizabeth Stengl's Veiled Rose
What I liked about this book--it's imaginative and compelling. The world and characters created by this author are unique yet familiar and sympathetic. I virtually read this lengthy book through in almost one sitting, eager for its resolution. Unfortunately, and now I'm to the "what I didn't like" part, that resolution isn't very satisfying or conclusive. I'm not a big fan of the to be continued type of books. There's also something hard to take seriously about the talking and transmuting (is that the right word for changing from one form to another, animal to human?) goat and dragon and the goblin idea (which reminds me a bit of Shrek the ogre for some reason). Furthermore, the two voices of the thrush and the lake are somewhat confusing, easy to mix up. But this book is largely entertaining and original and makes you think, so I'm glad I read it. I also plan to read the next in the series, though I really hope it will be fully resolved.
I received this book from Bethany House Publishers for the purpose of reviewing it.
